ebridge, a brief history
As momentum increases for the ebridge applications, I’m reminded of the purpose and mission of why we built the product. In the beginning, we started creating an app for just about any product thrown at the team. Jokingly, we would say “there’s an app for that”, but as our development environment shows, we’ve built 15 different connectors into a variety of enterprise products. At the end of the day, we’ve evaluated each and every one to ensure the viability and overall value we could deliver. During these sessions, questions of a ServiceNow integration with Office 365 quickly rose to the top of the list.
ServiceNow integration with Office 365: A complicated history
At its’ core, ServiceNow is truly an enormous development platform with a massive footprint in the industry. I can’t think of many better ways to get a solution in the hands of as many customers as possible. Microsoft’s Office 365 product is an even bigger juggernaut in the marketplace. One in five corporate employees now use an Office 365 cloud service. By user count, Office 365 is the most widely used cloud service globally. Building an application between these two platforms seemed to be a no-brainer, but the depth of the Office 365 product and feature set is daunting. Where do we focus? What would add the most value? What could we streamline and make easier for an end user?
Licensing simplified, with ebridge
Managing Microsoft licensing is a complicated task. The larger the organization, the confusion leads to disorganization and the risk of running too lean or significantly overpaying. Plenty of companies recognize this issue and offer a third-party solution. The problem is that now we are dealing with all of the issues a third party solution can bring. Training on a new UI, Managing users/software in multiple locations and potentially uncontrolled cost. As we looked at our core development principles with ebridge; we realized we could bring something to market that would really make an impact.
ServiceNow, one place for user and license management
Our core development principles make up every part of the Office 365 Provisioning girder. That means a full compliment of licensing management features, rich reporting and full control of provisioning onto the ServiceNow platform. Imagine having your finger on the pulse of your Office 365 licensure within the platform you’re using to manage all of your employees and assets. No more swivel chair integration between platforms, no more searching for the reports you need and finally, organized and streamlined management of your Office 365 environment. It’s here now, in the ServiceNow store.
Hire to Retire Seamless workflow between ServiceNow and Microsoft Office 365
ServiceNow’s on and off boarding workflows for hiring and retiring employees are awesome; however, when it comes to the licensing of Office 365, it was recognized that there was a huge need. In the past. when you were onboarding a new full time employee, temporary/seasonal employee, etc.; the on-boarding process would kick off, but when it came to assigning a license to a new employee, that’s where there was a gap in the overall process. If your organization already had enough licenses in their “inventory” to assign to a new user, there were no challenges; but if you did not have the license already purchased, then the process would just come to a complete stop.
Now, with our ebridge ServiceNow integration with Office 365 girder, we have solved for that challenge. If you are in the process of hiring additional resources, it will automatically check to see how many licenses you already own; and if you need more, it will seamlessly go out to the Microsoft Office 365 Cloud and purchase the necessary quantity in real time. This allows you to on-board your users through the workflow and prevents you from unnecessarily pre-purchasing licenses in advance of future hiring. Therefore, you will only pay for only what you are using.
Conversely, when retiring an employee, the ebridge ServiceNow integration with Office 365 girder will automatically turn off the subscription, which prevents you from paying for a license of someone who is no longer with the company.
